Memorials of Sacagawea
After many non-fictional and fictional novels, along with the findings of Lewis, Clark, and others' journals, Sacagawea became noticed and many started becoming interested in her life and journey. She is seen as a heroine in American history, as a woman and as a Native American. Sacagawea has many mountains, markers, paintings, lakes and creeks named after her along with many other things all across America in places such as: Wyoming, Idaho, North Dakota, Missouri, Montana, Texas, and Oregon (Lewis and Clark Trail, 2011).
The United States dollar coin, known as the golden dollar, has been minted since the year 2000, with Sacagawea as the face of the coin. The original idea was to have the Statue of Liberty as the face, but The Dollar Coin Advisory Committee was recommended and was ultimately chosen to be the United States golden dollar coin. Sacagawea played a key role in discovering Western America and with all her memorials we honor her and her part as an interpreter, guide, and provider in the Corps of Discovery (United States Mint, 2012).
